A Cheap Domain Can Be Very Valuable

A cheap domain can be really valuable, and it is because domains can be worth much more than then monetary cost. If you conduct a search with the query cheap domain, you are likely to be returned lists of sites that will offer to register the domain name for your website. In previous years, there were fewer registrars, and a more domains were available. However the landscape has changed considerably.
As the size and expanse of the web grew, good domain names became harder to find, and at this time if you search for a domain for a new website, the chances are very likely that it may have already been registered.

In earlier times, it was also recommended to have domains that were representative of the business with which you were involved; consequently if you were looking to buy a domain for your flower shop, you were encouraged to choose a name with the word flower or a variation in it.
Due to the changes that the search engines frequently implement, a lot of doubt has been created as to what the proper recommendations are. The questions that now deserve consideration are, is it really important to have keywords or variations of keywords included in domain names. There are millions of top-ranked sites, with meaningless domain names, so it can be concluded that domain names are a lot less important than they previously were.
Top-ranked domains are likely to cost more, for a number of related reasons, but in terms of ranking, there are other factors that can have more influence than the name of the domain.
Another classification that has created confusion is the extension of the domains. Since the.com extensions were the originals, and many are more than likely to be unavailable, there are still some options to obtaining a cheap domain. In place of varying the domain name that you need, by adding factors such as misspellings, or hyphenated word, it may be easier to obtain a domain with an alternative extension.
In addition to the.com extension, there is.biz,.net,.org,.co, and a host others. There has been considerable debate around the concept that alternate extensions may not be as favoured by the search engines. The doubt continues to circulate and it has never been confirmed. Because the search engines remain secretive about what is really need as far as ranking is concerned, the doubts and myths will continue to circulate.
The costs of domains are also relative, but generally, older domains may be worth more, because they may have been in use longer, and may be better recognised.
Logistically there may have been a preference for one-word domains as they were easier to enter, and they were also better for parsing by the search engine. It is relatively easy for the search engines to parse one word, than multiple words.
The term cheap domain may also be a misnomer, as cheap is relative. In 2007, domain was bought for $35 million so that it would be kept out of the hands of competitors. At that time it was considered as cheap, because it was believed that the intrinsic value would be worth much more. Today that domain valued at less than $200,000, and may still be considered as being a cheap domain.
